Television transmitters

Television transmitting antennas operate in the frequency range from 174 to 223 MHz (VHF band) and from 470 to 790 MHz (UHF band).

Powerful TV transmitters can transmit more than 1000 kW. There are also satellite television networks whose satellites orbit at ca. 36,000 km above the equator in a geostationary position, transmitting signals above 10 GHz.

The signal strength back on earth, however, is so low that dish antennas must be used. These are purely passive devices, which do not actively emit signals but simply focus the incoming signals from the satellites onto the receiver.
